I have a magnifying glass through which I look at the world. I use it to look closely at my shortcomings and failures. And, of course, at the limitations and failures of others! I am very frustrated at how lazy, unreliable, and annoyed we all are. Oh, we are dreadfully annoyed.
Using my magnifying glass, I’ve been looking at one particular problem for quite some time. You wanna know what it was, right? Indifference. I saw people as indifferent to one another, lacking understanding, and not caring about others. I saw it everywhere. And when I turned the magnifying glass on me… oh me, oh my!
Do you know what happened yesterday? Because the sun was shining brightly, all of a sudden, the problem became burning, and it was a conflagration! It engulfed my whole soul. Destruction and devastation. I wanted to break that magnifying glass into pieces.
As I raised my hand to smash it, I got a much better idea… I can use it to my advantage! I will just change the focus. I will focus on what is true, what is noble, what is just, what is pure, what is lovely, and what has a good reputation. I will really see people, and I will listen to them. I will try to understand them. I will offer a helping hand. I will bless them in those small everyday ways. Why haven’t I noticed before how beautiful the world is?! Oh, it is amazingly beautiful!
